B - Misunderstood

What one finds difficult, another may find easy - but that’s what makes us misunderstood. Whether it’s being too close for comfort, changing your every day routines, not being taken seriously or just being your average, run-of-the-mill psychopath, having these powers can really change your life. There’s no one who will quite understand the severity of these super-problems as much as you do. So don’t let anyone tell you that your problem is any less of a problem than anyone else’s.

Beth and Drew

One obvious aspect of these two that makes them misunderstood is that they are no longer two separate entities. As two individuals, they knew everything about each other… or so they thought. Once merged it became obvious that no one is meant to know everything about another person. There are things that should remain “secret” - its healthy to have something that is yours that no one else knows.

To be forced to share not only your space but your body with someone else can cause a ton of conflict. That conflict is then even harder to conflict than it would usually be because neither person can lock themselves in another room and take time away from the other.

It helps that only one can be conscious at a time, but they share brain functions with two completely different ways of seeing things The memories are vague but sometimes knowing is worse than not knowing…

Big Ben

Ben was once your slightly above average looking guy who didn’t display a single sign that he was anything more than that. But once the accident happened and his powers manifested, he became just different enough for people to notice. Flat hands seems like nothing when you have people made of stone or look like a monkey running around, but the extent of his differences don’t make him any less different to other people.

Ben has a tough time adjusting because he used to go to the store, work, the gym and wherever else he wanted to go without hateful or discussed glares from others. Now he can’t do any of that. He used to get positive attention from attractive women who now call him a fat freak.

There are some super-humans who don’t remember what it was like to be normal because they never were, but the hardest thing for Ben is that he was, and he remembers it very well. He misses the days before his abilities manifested and wishes he could go back to those simpler times.

Brad

Brad has always been the funny guy, whether at school or in his personal life. He enjoys the attention and doesn’t let it bother him when people tell them what they think of him. That’s a blessing due to the nature of his abilities, but at the same time, it has hurt his ability to be taken seriously in his endeavor to become the hero he knows he can be.

When he was cornered and beat half to death, only saved by the energy absorption that accompanied his energy blasts, his entire life changed. Yes, he still kept a good humor about things and had no problem cracking a joke here and there, but he now knew what it felt like to be certain he was going to die. In that moment he saw everyone as equal, deserving the opportunity to live and to never feel he did - a chaotic mess of scared, sad, and filled with regret for what he didn’t do with his life.

Now, he wants to use his comedic abilities for a serious cause, but everyone doubts his ability to be serious, so they don’t give him the chance.

Bree

Bree loves her family, her fiancé, her career, her life… or at least she did before her abilities made her rethink the definition of love. Once her technical brainwaves took over the portion of her brain responsible for emotional understanding and reactions, she saw love as a word attached to a definition. But it didn’t stop there - although there are things that will make her chuckle and she still gets frightened as a flight or fight response, her emotional capacity is so minimal that she’s nearly forgotten what it meant to be happy, how it felt to cry, or what it meant to miss someone.

Many people see her emotionless reactions as off-putting or tactless. It doesn’t bother her since she doesn’t feel that emotion anymore, but deep down, there’s something inside of her that knows those things used to exist within her, and as much as her logical brain tells her that she should delete those memories from her memory, she misses the times when those were a reality. At least she thinks she does.

Bruce

Being a little over half-way transformed into a dragon is bad enough, but Bruce has a bad reputation as a monster both physically and mentally to some people and all because he stuck a claw into his father’s chest when he was a child and killed him. What scares people the most is that Bruce isn’t sorry about it. He would do it again in a heartbeat if he could.

His dad being such an abusive person is what turned him into a dragon to begin with. His physical reaction to fear is to gain qualities of a dragon whenever he gets scared, and because of the constant abuse, Bruce is always on edge. It doesn’t take much at all to scare him. What started with a few scales turned into a claw, which turned into a long elk and spikes. It didn’t take long before he was recognizable as a dragon.

People see him as the monster that killed his own father while forgetting about the part where his father was the true monster. A child should never have to be afraid for their own life when they’re father gets home.

Buzz

Buzz killed his neighbor with a handshake and put a small child in the hospital just by touching their head. He feared his abilities and what he was capable of — wait… you mean to tell me he accidentally killed a full grown man but the same “touch” didn’t kill a small child? Something doesn’t add up here…

That’s because the only thing misunderstood about Buzz is that he is a complete psychopath. The kid was making too much noise, so he put him in the hospital so he wouldn’t be playing outside. And his neighbor… since when does a request to borrow a lawn mower warrant killing someone!?

Buzz was ecstatic when he realized he had powers - but he was only ecstatic because he was able to use them to rid the world of the people he didn’t think belonged in it.

This includes people who have done nothing wrong and will grow into anyone without super-human abilities. The world is not ready for this caliber of psycho to be unleashed upon it.
